Jim: The motion passed by the NEBGF delegates was as follows:
[u][i]Award a Grand Field Champion title for dogs that have earned an adequate number of wins and points in Brace and Gundog Federation Championship trials. These trials must be licensed by the AKC.
Delegates discuss; you will have to pay $3.50 per capita fee to AKC, Purina
could not sponsor and you will not get the double points, NEBGF
championship trial will have to be advertise as a license trial,
it will have to be open to the public, etc.
Delegates said we will bring in more beagles to trial if we leave it the way it is
now.
When discussed at the BAC meeting there was a more general interpretation of what a championship trial could be...that could include the FC Only Trials currently sponsored by the NEBGF. I think it was very clear to all that the NEBGF delegates did not want to license their all-age championship trial and our BAC delegate did not commit us to such. When you serve as a BAC delegate you are required to deal with changes, interpretations, and amendments to motions using your best possible judgement and without the benefit of going back to your constituents. Fortunately, we have a BAC delegate that is very knowledgeable and considerate, with a great deal of foresight.
You will note in the BAC minutes that the UBGF delegate voted in favor of the grand champion motion. You may not be aware that the question of licensing the UBGF National Championship had not been answered by his delegates at the time of the BAC meeting. Our vote and their vote did not marry us to a requirement to license our Federation championships or participate in a grand champion title, only to allow AKC an opportunity to further develop that concept while keeping us in the discussion on how such a title should be ordered.
You may also be unaware that our Federation has additional resources for influencing the development of a grand champion title (or vetoing it). We have direct lines of communication with the AKC delegates and the Delegates' field trial committee. We are probably the only gundog Federation that can tap our AKC member club resources for a voice with the AKC delegates. We also have direct contacts with AKC Board members. Those contacts may be employed if the program goes awry and our Federation's voice needs to be heard.
My final thought on your question is that there is an implied accusation that despite direction from the delegates the NEBGF officers are colluding to run this ship for their own benefit and direction. In fact, in reading many of the posts on this board and others, such accusations of officers, judges, clubs, etc... seem to be the norm rather than the exception. At first I hesitated to validate such accusations with a response, but in the interests of any that might have had a similar question, I've responded/taken the bait. It is my opinion that if we are to use this excellent tool that Carl Post has created as our Federation's and Associations' forum for public use and view, we should strive to always present a positive tenor when using it. If we continue to use this forum to attack and criticize each other, rather than ask and answer questions or present ideas and opinions, its value as a resource will be diminished, the folks who just want beagling information will go elsewhere, and a lot of hard work will have been wasted.
For my part, if any of you are feeling slighted or agitated about something you perceive has been done by the NEBGF or its officers (or if you just have questions or suggestions), feel free to call me at (717) 449-0699. John Gibble

When I was about 8 years old, me and another boy didn't have anything productive to do. We were down at the ball diamond, one of us at one end of the dugout and the other at the other end of the dugout. Because we didn't have anything better to do, we started throwing rocks over the dugout at each other. One of us ended up with 10 stitches in his head, the other one got a sore behind. I might still chuck a rock now and then, but I try not to make a habit of it. I checked this morning and the phone number still works.
